School Clubs
The following are brief descriptions of some of the clubs or organizations that may be offered:
Book Club: Students read and discuss a variety of popular, age-appropriate books. (sixth and seventh grades)
Community Service Club: Students engage in projects that have an impact on the community. Ten hours a year will be required of students in seventh grade. (sixth and seventh grades)
Chess Club: Beginners and experienced players are welcome. Each class will consist of a fun, interactive learning period followed by supervised game play. Chess helps improve academic skills while building self confidence. (all grades)
First Friends: Students serve as hosts to visitors. They are involved in sharing information about GEDS and articulating its mission. They also serve as ambassadors to the community at large. (seventh grade)
Functional Fitness: This is a type of circuit training for students, parents, and teachers. The purpose of the class is to keep the heart pumping while changing the exercise every few minutes. This total body workout is 30 minutes of high-energy exercise. (fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh grades)
Run Walk Club: This club promotes endurance. Each student is encouraged to challenge his or her own fitness level with a 30 minute run/walk off campus. To develop endurance, the students try to increase the amount of run time each week. Parents are encouraged to participate. (fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh grades)
Student Council: In weekly lunch meetings, the council serves as a forum for student opinions and suggestions. They will work with the faculty, administration, and student body to enhance daily life in school. Representatives are elected in the fall. (fifth, sixth, seventh grades)
Tennis Club: This program is sponsored by Club Continental with Lee Williams as instructor. (first through seventh grades)
Year Book: Students will serve as editors of the Grace Yearbook. (sixth, seventh grades)
Newspaper: Students will serve as writers, editors, and publishers of a Grace Episcopal Day School Newspaper.
Youth Group: Grace Episcopal Church sponsors a middle school youth group for students of all denominations in grades 7-12. (sponsored by Matt Bowers, Grace Episcopal Church)
